Our first week of Advent we light the candle of Hope. We pray:
"Come Lord Jesus, fill us with hope."

Faith Formation Reflection: As we take time to reflect and wait during Advent, it is also a time for our program to once again reflect on this year's catechetical theme, "Hands of Holiness". Our hands can share God's hope in the world, especially as we hold our hands in prayer. Our hands can bring peace to another through a handshake; our hands can be raised in praise of God, our hands can lead others, our hands can welcome others, and our hands can pray.
As we reflect on our the many ways we can use our hands for God's work, let us bless our hands to be strong, caring, loving, welcoming, and sharing. Let our hands remind us during Advent to be hopeful in our prayers.

The Advent Tree: Week One
November 28
HOPE

Above, you will find our Advent Tree which will show our own progress of preparing for Christmas. This first week we prepare with prayers of hope. As a reminder of this year's catechetical theme, "Hands of Holiness", we use our hands to make the tree. Our hands hold prayers of hope. Each child's hand forms the Advent Tree filled with prayers of hope. Some of the prayers include:

Pray for my mother who is sick.
Pray for those who are hungry.
Pray that Jesus is always in my heart.
Pray for children who are poor.
Pray that Jesus comes to us.
Pray for peace in the world.
Pray for firemen to keep them safe.
Pray for our soldiers in Afghanistan and everywhere.
Pray for those who are sick.
Pray for a Merry Christmas for everyone.

You can leave your prayer of hope in the comment section. You, too, can hold these prayers of hope in your hands as you pray.

Grade One Makes Advent Ribbons. The colors of the ribbon are violet, pink, and green, the same colors as we find on the Advent Wreath. The ribbons are to wear over their hearts as a reminder to prepare their hearts for Jesus.
