Advent Tree

The Elementary Grades 1-6 are preparing the Christmas Tree through the weeks of Advent. Each week the tree is adorned with symbols that help prepare ourselves for the Coming of Jesus Christ. Please note that our classes prepare for the upcoming Sunday. Place your cursor over the picture to read the captions and prayers. 2nd Grade November Entry

November 1st was All Saint's Day. The Second Grade class honored this day in a special way. First, the students learned about the saint who has the Christian derivative of their own name. The children created posters about their saint from the story of the saint. These saint posters can be seen on the main wall in the parish hall. Below is a little sample to see (some are a little blurry).

Second, the children presented a beautiful prayer service for the First Graders. In the basket, the children placed items significant to popular saints. Here is what is in the basket at this time:
  • A textbook in honor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton who taught children about their faith.
  • A prayerbook and rosary in honor of St. Teresa of Lisieux who lived a life of simple prayer.
  • A hammer in honor of St. Joseph who worked hard as a carpenter to take care of his family.

Mrs. Slaven says she would put a hand shovel and cross in the basket in honor of St. Helena who is the patron saint of archeologists. She is the founder of the true cross.
